Your mother always told you not to play with your food. Apparently, not everyone listens to his or her mother. Dining at a themed restaurant is a fun way to do something different this vacation by being an attraction in itself as well as a place to satisfy your hunger. You can grab a great bite between giggles amid the outrageously decorated interiors of two of New York’s wacky themed restaurants.
Ever dream of being an astronaut and traveling to far off worlds? Now you can, at Mars-themed restaurant Mars 2112. Mars 2112 transports you to the red planet by way of Times Square for an out-of-this-world experience.
Decorated like a sci-fi movie set complete with neon lights, red rocks, and eerie space music, Mars 2112 offers kid friendly food like chicken fingers and hamburgers as well as more sophisticated fare for the adults like ribs, calamari, and salmon. All this is served to you by waitresses dressed in Martian costumes.
When you’re done eating, head off through the dancing Martians scattered about the restaurant to the arcade for some space-age games or bring back an intergalactic souvenir from their gift shop. At the bar, adults can grab a silly space-themed drink like a Cosmos-politan or a Mars-tini.
Heee-ya! Unleash the ninja in you at Ninja New York, a restaurant whose entire theme is…you guessed it, ninjas. Read the rest of this entry »

New York, the amazing home of the New Year’s Eve ball that millions of people watch on television each year and literally thousands of people fight the crowds to see in person, is a fabulous place to spend New Year’s Eve, a weekend, or better yet, a week. Finding discounts on travel in today’s economy is not as hard as it used to be. But, if you’re planning the trip for the next dropping of the ball, the earlier you initiate grabbing the deals, the better discounts you will acquire.
Gathering resources is always the best way to start when planning a trip, no matter how small the trip is going to be. Get on the internet and start scouring cheap hotel information, then head to the newspapers, and check for coupons, and finally, locate a hotel that you are interested in staying at and give them a call. Hotel employees that answer the phone usually have leeway to offer discount rates over the phone if asked, but they won’t just put the offer out there. If you do not ask, you will not get; nobody, including hotels, is going to throw out a special without being asked. Most people won’t ask, so the hotels aren’t going to cut their nose of to spite their face by offering discounted rates to customers that do not possess negotiating skills. Get out your bargaining hat and start calling nearby hotels to see if they’ll throw a discount your way.
Hit the internet for the discount rates that are available for the internet shopper’s delight. There are literally thousands of travel and hotel packages sold on the internet daily, and New York City is on the list for savings. If an airplane ticket is necessary, there are travel packages available through the internet. As a matter of fact, there’s a good chance that if you need a plane ticket and a hotel, you will get a better discount package than if you needed either one separately. Read the rest of this entry »
